Daifuku to break through for deserved maiden win

Unlucky not to have broken her maiden to date, Daifuku (pictured) will be stepping up over ground for the first time as she lines up in the maiden event over 1950m at Rotorua today.

To be ridden by leading hoop Mark du Plessis, Daifuku will jump from the ace barrier draw which should give her several options as where to position herself in the running.

“She’s deserved of a win and the way she has been racing she should appreciate the step up in distance,” co-trainer Chad Ormsby said.

All her placings have come on left handed tracks so the Rotorua way of going should only assist her chances.

The second runner on the card is Reachn’ Out who will strip fitter following her first run over 1400m last start at Matamata.

Michael Coleman will take the reins and is ideally drawn from gate five.

Thursday racing takes place at Tauranga racecourse and Ballymore will present three runners including Estelle who will be resuming in the Rating 75 1300m event.

Stringing two very dominant performances together before heading for a spell, Estelle will kick of this preparation over 1300m, a distance short of her optimum.

“She’s going to improve from the run, although a strong performance would come as no surprise,” Ormsby said.

“We’ve been looking forward to getting her back on the track – we have plenty of time for this mare.”

Impressive last start runner-up Sororia will be hoping to go one better as she lines up in the maiden event over 1600m, and judging from her last run she should really appreciate the step up to the mile.

“She was a bit lost last start, although she really got going in the final stages and she is a lot better for the experience,” Ormsby said.

“We think she is a nice staying filly in the making so we are looking forward to her stepping up over ground.”

Stable mate Miz Oldfields Road will contest the same race and she too will appreciate the step up in distance, doing her very best work late in the piece at her last outing at Matamata.

“She let down well over the closing stages at Matamata and the better track on Friday will help her chances.”

The daughter of Red Giant has shown ability to date and is another to watch as she steps up over further ground.
