Surpass welcomes forecast weather in Moe Cup

Confidence levels are continually lifting for the six-year-old son of Savabeel, Surpass (pictured), in today’s The Win Netowrk Moe Cup Handicap over 2050m following the showers received overnight and predicted today.

Surpass boasts a strong record on tracks that have ranged from dead to slow, which include all six career victories and a further nine placings.

The winner of over $200,000 in prize money to date, Surpass has also drawn favourably in the feature event, jumping from barrier 3, and will be ridden by Jake Noonan.

“He’s a good chance in this race and if the track eases back to a slow he’s a great chance,” said trainer Mike Moroney.

“His last few starts have had merit and he is proven over the distance.”

Surpass has recorded four wins and a three placings from 12 career starts over the distance.

The promising and lightly tried Lord Barrington makes an appearance in race eight on the card at Moe today and jumps from barrier 2 with jockey Steven Arnold continuing his association with the son of Darci Brahma.

Finding the line strongly at Bendigo last start, Lord Barrington looks well placed in this field and should start as one of the more fancied runners in the sprint event over 1100m.

“He’s working super and this race looks ideal for him,” Moroney said.

The last of the three runners at Moe today is the three-year-old son of young sire Tavistock in Rising Stock.

Rising Stock made one appearance as a juvenile before heading to the spelling paddock.

Tavistock has made a good impression in the early stages of his career and this gelding will certainly improve from his outing today.
