Ballymore Busy At Bendigo

We have some nice young horses heading to the Bendigo meeting on Wednesday, kicking off with two runners in the Prestige Jayco 3Y0 Maiden Plate.

Kiwi Dreamer, a son of one of our favourite stallions Pentire, is due to make his debut with Mark Zahra to take the ride.

Hailing from a strong Group One family whose members include the AJC Derby winner Roman Emperor, Kiwi Dreamer is described by Michael Moroney as “a nice staying horse in the making.”

“He will take another preparation I would think,” he said, noting that the bay is “still a bit backward and dumb! “

“He will improve out of sight come the autumn.”

Also a three-year-old son of Pentire, Lord Disick ran nicely at his Seymour debut a few weeks ago and has, says Moroney “improved since.”

“He is a chance to make it through the spring,” he said.

“It was a nice run first up and from a good draw he looks a good chance.”

In the fifth race, the Bob Grieve 90th Birthday Maiden Plate we saddle up three runners.

Unfortunately Say My Name has drawn a horror gate but the Onemorenomore gelding has been working particularly well.

“There was merit to his first up run as he did not have the best of luck,” Moroney reported.

“He is a horse who could turn it all around pretty quickly,” he continued – but warning that he may be saved for another day due to the barrier draw.

Pins gelding Simply Explosive, who has also drawn out, is a horse who will improve with the experience of racing.

“He is a really nice staying colt,” Moroney said, adding that “the penny just hasn’t dropped with him yet.”

Purchased by Paul Moroney at last year’s Easter Sale, Simply Explosive hails from the family of multiple Group One winner Sacred Falls.

First emergency and also drawn awkwardly is Buck Rogers, a horse we have always had a bit of time for.

“He did not have the best of runs at his first start. He got back from a wide gate and copped a prat in the straight and didn’t really pick up after that.”

“But he is one of our better three-year-olds and it would be no surprise to see him quickly improve.”
