Spitfire contests Glasshouse

The Queensland Winter Carnival is drawing to a close with feature racing heading to the Sunshine Coast on Saturday – and we will be cheering on Spitfire Lady in one the day’s main events, the Listed Glasshouse Handicap.

Close up at her last couple of starts at Rotorua and Ipswich, the Hussonet daughter of the excellent broodmare Galroof finished off nicely when fourth in the Listed Gai Waterhouse Classic at Ipswich two weeks ago.

“She takes on the boys this time,” Anthony Feroce reported, “but she has done very well in Queensland and that last run was very good.”

“Hopefully she can get some more black-type.”

Our other Saturday runner Picture Editor heads to Adelaide where he takes his place in the Brentnalls Handicap over 2500m.

“He has drawn a good gate (4) and he is only 2kg off the minimum,” Feroce noted, adding that “he loves heavy tracks.”

Which is just what he will be getting at Morphettville where he will be partnered by Dom Tourneur.

“He looks to be a strong winning chance,” said Feroce.

We have another Sunshine Coast runner on Sunday, Music Of Life looking to break her maiden in the second event.

To be ridden by Eddie Wilkinson from barrier 8, the Exceed And Excel filly will be wearing blinkers for the first time.

“She has trialled well in them and we expect her to improve,” Feroce said.

We also have three runners at the Sale meeting on Sunday, kicking off with The Bunsta in the Ladies Day Maiden Plate.

The son of Pentire was a very good third at Seymour at his Australian debut and we have been pleased by his progress since.

“He has trained on extremely well and he is suited up in distance. We are looking for a bold showing.”

Girls On Film resumes in the Heyfield Cup and her fresh form is sound.

“She will get better as she goes up in distance but she has won at 1200m and she loves the wet. She is forward enough to run a big race.”

Whilst a wet track will suit Girls On Film, we are hoping for a drier surface for Walloon Region who has accepted to run in the Middle Distance Series Heat 3.

“We just don’t want it too wet for him,” Feroce said, adding that the Danzero gelding has been working well – “he is ready to run a big race should he get conditions to suit.”
