Ballymore's Wet Weekend

Ballymore's weekend may not be as busy as it was going to be before rain hit but we still have several nice runners, several of whose chances will be enhanced by the prospect of damp conditions.

Whilst our Caulfield entries will not be taking their place, we do have a couple of runners at Bendigo kicking off with Picture Editor (pictured) in the meeting's feature, the Elmore Cup. "The mile may still be a bit short for him," Michael Moroney conceded, "but the rain is certainly going to help him." A three times winner on slow or heavy tracks, Picture Editor ran nicely over 1400m first up at Sandown and has pleased us with his progress since.

Black Tomahawk contests the following race, a 1400m benchmark handicap. Having his first run since his debut campaign during which he showed good ability, the lightly raced son of Zabeel stallion Seul Amour has been shaping well. "Whatever he shows on Saturday he will improve on but he is a nice staying type who has got stronger."

Our Royal Randwick entry, Postnthyme, will be saved for next Wednesday due to the heavy track conditions.

Our only other weekend runners are at Terang on Sunday. The first of those may be Solomon's Bolt - providing the rain stays away from that part of Victoria. Well regarded by the stable, the New Approach three-year-old did not handle heavy going at debut but still managed a handy fourth. "He is going well," Moroney said, "but if conditions worsen he will come out".

Fellow maiden Red Cliffs, a well-related son of Redoute's Choice, is also entered for Terang - due to have his first run since his debut campaign last spring. Unplaced at his first two runs he has however come on nicely since being gelded. "He has improved a lot," Moroney reported, adding that "he has performed very well in his jump-outs this time in."

Muirfield, who was sound when resuming over 1400m at Sandown recently, strips fitter and is up to 1600m on Sunday. "That trip may prove a little short for him but the rain helps him," Moroney said - pointing to Muirfield's two wet track victories.
