About Square's Sale Quality

The race was a Quality event - and it was won by a quality horse, this year's Sale Quality taken out in convincing style by About Square.

Enjoying a good run behind the pace for Glen Boss, the talented four-year-old - who races best when he has clear room in running - found himself presented with a lovely run at the top of the straight, and he soon took it.

Hitting the lead at the 200m and drawing clear to salute by a soft 3/4 length, About Square recorded the fourth success of his 17 start career.

Third up from a spell, About Square had been close up without a great deal of luck at two Flemington straight runs and his win, said Boss, was "a deserved one."

"His two runs this time in have been really good," he said, noting that at his previous start About Square had got "tangled up behind some slow horses."

"But he closed off really well that day," he continued, adding that the son of Refuse To Bend "likes room - he needs a bit of space."

"The 400m run-in here really helps them hit the line," he said of the Sale track.

"He could get balanced up early which really helps him hit the line."

About Square is out of the unraced Lalika, a Danehill sister to the Group Three winners Replicator and Green Treasure (Hong Kong).

About Square’s third dam Slenderella (Alpenkonig) was a dual Group winner in Germany and this is the family of Epsom Derby hero Slip Anchor.
