Revelator on song for Taupo Cup

The prospect of a wet track at Taupo tomorrow(Monday) is the only factor that has co-trainer Chad Ormsby in two minds about rugged stayer Revelator’s chances in the feature race on the programme, the Harcourts Taupo Cup (1950m).

Although initially disappointed with the five-year-old gelding’s most recent run at Te Rapa where he finished near the rear of the field, Ormsby has since revised his opinion on the race.

“He didn’t get a lot of luck at Te Rapa as he was wide for a fair portion of the race while they also walked along in front and then sprinted home so he didn’t really get an opportunity to show his best,” he noted.

“I can’t fault his work since that race and he had been building up to a win beforehand so I guess we just carry on and hope it was just one of those days.

“At this stage the only question I have is how he will go on a wet track however he is pretty tough and rock hard fit so I think he should handle it.”

The Moroney and Ormsby team have another three runners entered today although the weather will have a bearing on how many of those take their place in the barriers.

“Spitting Image is a duffer on a wet track so if the rain continues he won’t line-up in the second,” said Ormsby.

“However it will suit Passing Parade who won nicely last time and has won on a heavy track so he will be a good chance with the apprentice claim he gets with Michael Dee riding.''

“Our last runner is Suspicious Minds in race eight who is a really lovely filly that won’t be a maiden for much longer as we expect her to win a race at short notice.”

Ormsby will also be looking for a change of luck for promising three-year-old filly Total Response when she tackles the Gr. 2 New Zealand Bloodstock Royal Stakes (2000m) at Ellerslie on New Year’s Day.

The filly was badly hampered when favourite Lucia Valentina stumbled and fell during the running of the Gr. 2 Championship Stakes on Boxing Day.

“You can write that run off as she didn’t get much of a go at them after the fall while she was also checked early in the race,” he said.

“She came through it okay and we definitely think she has the ability to match it at that level so we are hoping for a top run with some good luck thrown in as well.”
