Headquarters Trio

Ballymore heads to Flemington's pre-Christmas meeting on Saturday with a strong hand - three nice horses, three nice chances - About Square (pictured), Ali Vital and Mrs Hadlee.

About Square is the first of the trio engaged, due to take his place in the fourth event - the Fiesta Star Handicap over 1200m.

Having his first start since mid-September, the talented four-year-old has had two jump-outs in preparation for this assignment and has fared well.

"We'd be disappointed if he didn't show something," Michael Moroney said of About Square, noting that the Refuse To Bend gelding boasts "a terrific record down the straight."

At his most recent outing at the Flemington 1200m back in August, About Square proved a class above his rivals with 59kg - and this time has 1kg less with Dwayne Dunn aboard.

Second up in the Comic Court Handicap is Ali Vital, a lightly raced and talented four-year-old who caught the eye with a strong late finish when resuming over 1500m at Moonee Valley in late November.

In easy winning form second up last time in, the son of Yamanin Vital has impressed us with the way he has matured this time around.

"He is a stronger hosre this time in," Moroney said.

"The one query is if he might need one more run but he is a nice horse going well and he has drawn nicely to get a soft run."

Also to be ridden by Dwayne Dunn, Ali Vital will jump from barrier one.

Mrs Hadlee resumes in the final event, the Beachside Handicap.

Boasting a consistent overall record, the grey usually comes to hand quickly and Moroney has been pleased with the way she has come up.

"She is a stronger mare now," he said.

"She has raced in good class all through her career and she is quite a handy mare. It would be no surprise to see her win."
