Brazilian Pulse in fine shape for Gr.1

We saddle up some nice runners this weekend, the star of the show of course being Brazilian Pulse who takes her place in the $400,000 Gr.1 Vinery Stud Stakes.

Nicely drawn in barrier six for regular rider Craig Williams, the high class three-year-old is not surprising a short priced favourite in early markets.

Impressive winning the Gr.3 Keith Nolan Stakes at Rosehill last Saturday, Brazilian Pulse has pulled up extra well and Michael Moroney is looking forward to her next major assignment.

"She looks really well," he enthused. "She has bounced back from that run nicely - she is very bright in herself and she has been eating well. She did a nice piece of work this morning and she is still on the improve."

Joining Brazilian Pulse at Rosehill is Muirfield who lines up in the Gr.2 Tulloch Stakes en-route to the Gr.1 AJC Derby.

Desperately unlucky at his most recent outing at Moonee Valley, the up-and-coming gelding charged home late in the Gr.2 Alister Clark Stakes, having been badly held up for a run.

"We have always had an opinion of this horse," Moroney said, "and he has worked very well since that luckless run at the Valley - it will be interesting to see how he measures up."

Just the one runner in Melbourne on Saturday, Shylock's Daughter second up in the Epworth Handicap, the sixth event of the day.

Suited by a slight rise in distance on the back of a smart first up victory at Ballarat, the reliable six-year-old boasts good second up form although she is up in grade.

"She has struck a pretty good field," Moroney conceded, "but she did win well first up. Any rain about would help her."

One more runner for the weekend - Can Get Thirsty having his second up run at Ballarat on Sunday.

Sticking to the mile, having been off the scene for quite a while prior to his impressive first up Echuca victory over that same trip, the lightly raced four-year-old is held in high regard.

"He is still very new," Moroney said, noting that he was green first up, "but when he works it all out he will be a decent stayer."
