Back To Back Ipswich Cups?

The talented Muirfield is our feature runner this weekend, the five-year-old taking his place in the $200,000 Listed Ipswich Cup - a race the stable won last year with Shenzhou Steeds and in 1997 with He's Back On Track.

Ready to bounce back after an unplaced run on unsuitably firm going in Adelaide last start - having previously run a game second in the Warrnambool Cup, Muirfield has settled in well in Queensland.

Not that he is ever unsettled, the son of Don Eduardo boasting a particularly laid-back temperament.

"He is so lovely and quiet in his work," Michael Moroney said, adding that "all my staff enjoy working with him."

But in races it is a different story - "he has got a competitive temperament when it comes to racing which is what you want in a good racehorse."

Also being aimed at the Caloundra Cup, Muirfield is expected to run an improved race on Saturday - "we have found that if we dodge the really firm tracks he usually performs well," said Moroney.

Further south we are represented by a couple of runners at the Rosehill meeting - Savvy Dancer and Don Carlos both lining up in the Sydney Banana Wholesalers Handicap over 2000m.

With both drawing nicely and stripping fitter for two runs back from spells, the pair are expected to prove competitive.

Whilst we have no runners at Moonee Valley we still have a busy Saturday in Victoria with four runners at the Seymour meeting which was postponed from Thursday.

Fonta's Own and Zazparella both look nicely placed in the mile maiden - the former ready for the rise in distance whilst the latter was a game second at the trip at Benalla last time out.

Imported mare Poplin drops a little in class Mitchelton Wines Showcase 0-68 Handicap and also looks well placed to run a good race whilst fellow UK galloper Point Made contests the eighth event, the Pet, Horse & Farm Nagambie Showcase BM72 Handicap.
