An Awesome Victory

Ballymore saddled up three runners in the Border Lifting & Safety Maiden Plate at Wodonga on Monday and for a few strides it looked as though we might secure the trifecta.

Whilst it was not to be, we did cheer on the quinella however with Awesome Goal an impressive winner over a gallant Tristram's Sun who fought on gamely after making the pace.

Always travelling sweetly for in-form jockey Jamie Mott, Awesome Goal was put in to the race early and he responded well - in the run home racing away by 4¼ lengths.

"That was very easy," said Mott, adding that after enjoying "a lovely run" for the first half of the race he decided to take off a fair way out.

"At the 7/800m I gave him a sueeze and put him into the race early - and I had the others beaten at the 600m."

City placed on heavy going last winter, Awesome Goal "relished" the conditions according to Mott who added "that he will definitely win more races.

Raced by the GG Syndicate Ltd (manager Gerard Peterson), Gurners Bloodstock Co (manager Andrew Ramsden), Grayham Jennings, Christopher & Linley Talbot, Barry & Deidre Neville-White and Brad Peterson, Awesome Goal is a son of dual Group One winning Spetrum stallion Golan out of the placed Pentire mare Switch Hitter.

Also dam of Ballymore's handy five-year-old Absolutelyawesome, Switch Hitter is out of the six times winner Earina Lass – in turn daughter of the high class race filly Sanderae, winner of the VRC Oaks, the Wakeful Stakes and the Kewney Stakes.
