Double for Walloon Region

Progressive three-year-old Walloon Region looked good breaking his maiden at Seymour last month and he was all the more impressive when rising in grade, weight and distance at Ballarat on Sunday.

Again ridden by an in-form Jamie Mott, the son of Danzero travelled well mid-field with cover but did have a wall of horses in front of him as he entered the straight.

A run soon presented itself however and Walloon Region immediately took it - hitting the lead at the 200m and giving a good kick enroute to a 3/4 length victory under the steadier of 60kg.

Conceding the runner-up a couple of kilos, Walloon Region was strong at the end of a mile and looks ready to take yet another step up.

Always well regarded by the stable - just needing a little time, the $65,000 2011 Melbourne Premier Sale purchase by Paul Moroney has had just five starts with plenty of scope for further improvement.

Raced by R & C Legh Racing Pty Ltd (Manager Rupert Legh), Gurners Bloodstock Co (Manager Andrew Ramsden), Paul Woods, Robert Hodge, Cazjohn Racing (Manager John Edwards), Danny Trainor, David Gorton, Christopher & Dymphna Muir and the ARK Syndicate, Walloon Region is a half-brother by Danzero to the stake placed Schiffer out of a half-sister to the NZ Group One winner Sharvasti and the Group Three winners Bhandara and Shastri.

His dam Modave is named after a municipality of Belgium within the Walloon Region so he is well named!

It was a good weekend for his family with relative Linton taking out the Gr.3 R.A Lee Stakes at Morphettville on Saturday.
