Two winners in two days

Ballymore's recent outstanding run of winners continued this week with Rhythm To Spare (pictured) saluting at Sandown on Wednesday and Devonshire Duke at Seymour on Thursday.

Having only his second Australian run, the well regarded Rhythm To Spare settled midfield in the 1600m contest - getting out in the straight and charging home out wide.

Winning by half a length with plenty in hand, the son of Pins looks to have a bright future.

"We have always had a good opinion of him," said Michael Moroney, adding that the gelding had initially been on a preparation aimed at the New Zealand Derby earlier in the year.

"But he went shin-sore so we aborted that campaign with a view to coming here and having a go at the Queensland Derby."

Confident that Rhythm To Spare will stay the trip, Moroney described the bay as "a very athletic horse and a relaxed sort who settled into our Melbourne stables very quickly."

Also catching the eye when breaking his maiden at Bendigo at his local debut, Rhythm To Spare is raced by R & C Legh Racing (Manager Rupert Legh), the GG Syndicate Ltd (Manager Gerard Peterson), John O'Neill, Carty Racing (Manager Brett Carty), Andrew Dunne, Mark & Jody Pejic, Grant Devonport, J Lee, M & E Dominello, B D Nettlefold and Roberto & Anja Scheriani.

Glen Boss, riding Rhythm To Spare for the first time, was impressed.

"He gave me a quality feel going to the gates," he enthused.

"He has got a really good action and a turn of foot - I suspect that he is a horse of very good ability."

Another horse we have also always had a bit of time for is Devonshire Duke who out-toughed his rivals - including stablemate Point Made - over a mile at Seymour.

Always travelling well for Michael Walker, the lightly raced four-year-old was wide early but game in the run home - hitting the lead at the 100m and getting clear to salute by 3/4 length.

Congratulations to owners Gurners Bloodstock Co (manager Andrew Ramsden), Noel & Judith Griffin, Peter Walker, Krauser Racing, Anne Bergin, Andrew Locantro, Jackie Baldwin, the DD Syndicate (manager Matt Chapman), Jarrod Douglas and Darren McMurray.
