Saturday's two track attack

The stable takes some very nice horses to the races this weekend and we are hoping we can kick off with a winner with Milkwood contesting the opening event - the Escape To Rydges 2200m at Arawa Park, Rotorua on Saturday.

A gallant last start second over a mile at Avondale, the lightly raced daughter of Dylan Thomas has been racing as though looking for more ground.

"Her last run was very good," Chad Ormsby said, "and she does look suited up in distance."

"It does not look an overly strong field," he continued, "and she should prove very competitive."

Nicely drawn in barrier five, Milkwood will again be ridden by regular partner Michael Coleman.

A couple of races later we saddle up She's Samashing in the Fiber Fresh 3Y0 Handicap. Also to be ridden by Coleman, she has drawn the inside gate in the 1400m contest.

"It looks a strong field," Ormsby conceded, "but she has drawn nicely and she has already performed well at Rotorua which is very important at that track."

Picking up late ground when resuming over 1200m at Ellerslie, She's Samashing strips fitter and the extra 200m looks ideal at this stage.

We also take three horses to the Pukekura Raceway on Saturday, the first of those being Short Tale who has drawn barrier one in the Barry Daniels & Sons Painters 1200m.

Placed at three of her last four outings, the Pins mare has certainly be consistent.

"She has been pretty close of late," Ormsby said, "and hopefully Saturday will be her day!"

Also by Pins, Gospel lines up in the following race, the Hirequip 1200m.

He is a horse due a change of luck - first up missing the start and second up sitting wide throughout.

"Third up he should be ready to show more," Ormsby said, noting that the gelding "has in the past raced well when travelling."

Crown Of Thorns is the last of our Saturday runners, taking his place in the Energy City Ford Open over 1200m.

He too has run into bad luck this campaign, second up striking early interference.

"He looks ready to run a good race," Ormsby said, noting that the durable seven-year-old drops 4kg from his most recent outing.

"It is a competitive weight drop and he looks a good chance in a pretty even field."
