A Major victory

Major Coup kicked off our weekend in grand fashion at Moonee Valley on Friday evening, the lightly raced and promising four-year-old showing great heart to record his third victory from just nine starts.

Badly held up for a run when travelling sweetly approaching the turn, Major Coup needed a fair bit of luck straightening but a gap came and he took it in the style of a quality horse.

"I got into a bit of trouble," said jockey Glen Boss, "and I thought my horse was very brave to get through a very small opening and give a kick like he did."

"I am not being silly when I say he should've won by at least a couple of lengths," he added.

Riding Major Coup only for the second time, Boss is already impressed by the son of Savabeel (pictured).

"His second up run at Sandown was terrific and I knew he'd be ready to peak third up," he said - telling punters that they should continue to follow the in-form galloper.

"He is going to relish getting up in distance and he'll just keep winning," he enthused.

Stable representative Matt Hoysted was relieved after the race.

"It was lucky Boss didn't panic," he laughed, "because I did!"

Hoysted, standing in for Michael Moroney who was on his way home from Albury Cup Day (Crimson Lady acquitting herself in that race), described Major Coup as "an up-and coming stayer who looks ready to go right on with it now."

A slow maturing type who has been patiently handled, Major Coup is raced by Giuseppe Del Mastro, Gerard Van Ameyden, Geoffrey Sharp, Andrew Dale, Versace Racing, McGrath Racing, Puzzle Racing, Rba Racing, Pink & Frikkers & Ironbar Syndicates.

We hope our recent good run continues at Caulfield on Saturday where we will be saddling up four horses including three - Shenzhou Steeds, Sabrage and Garud - in the same race, the Sky High Mt Dandenong Handicap.

And we are looking forward to cheering on exciting galloper Air Striker who makes his metropolitan debut in the Inglis Bonus.
