Pismo Beach impresses breaking maiden

Seals attract nature lovers and tourists to Pismo Beach, California and the horse named after that popular spot looked good breaking his maiden at Terang on Tuesday.

A well-named son of Strada (pictured) and the Rubiton mare Seal Point, Pismo Beach was having only his third run and just his second this time in and he won in the style of a horse to follow.

Gelded after showing talent at debut - a close up Echuca fifth after racing wide on the speed in May last year - Pismo Beach resumed with a game third at Colac.

Deriving great benefit from that run, the promising bay was always travelling well for Ryan Maloney on Tuesday - sitting outside the leader before hitting the front half way down the straight.

Still a little green, Pismo Beach nevertheless found the line well with his winning margin a soft one length.

"It was pretty easy work in the end," said Maloney who said that he feels Pismo Beach will be even better over a bit longer than the 1000m of his maiden victory.

"I think 1200m or 1400m will suit him," he said, adding that "he has a nice, high cruising speed which should hold him in good stead later on."

Raced by Ballymore Stables (Aust) Pty Ltd, the Twoeasy Syndicate (manager Darren Mcmurray) and Warwick Poll, Pismo Beach was a $35,000 purchase for Paul Moroney at the 2011 Classic Sale.

Hailing from the second crop of the two times Listed winning sprinter Strada (a son of Danehill), Pismo Beach is a half-brother to seven winners including the metropolitan winners Lodgent, My Point, Aubade and Tudor Magic.

His dam Seal Point, who sadly died last year, was a full sister to the stakes placed Dolly Will Do, dam of the dual Group One winner Playing God and the four times Group winner God Has Spoken.
