Lordoftheparrots finds the line in the Wangaratta Cup

It was a tough and well deserved victory recorded by the consistent Lordoftheparrots in the Wangaratta Cup on Sunday.

Settling nicely for Jake Noonan just off the leader and favourite Min River, Lordoftheparrots was always travelling well although he did lose his position a little as the field bunched before the turn.

Noonan did not panic however, saving Lordoftheparrots for a late run - angling him out into the clear with a 100m to go and letting the six-year-old balance up and charge late.

Getting up right on the line, Lordoftheparrots atoned for a recent run of bad luck in other country cups.

"He has been performing well," said stable stable representative Greg Hoysted whose family is famous in the Wangaratta area - "at his last couple of runs he has been held up and he is the sort of horse who has to be able to get out and rolling early."

Jake Noonan, who recalled strapping his first winner at Wangaratta, was pleased.

"From the gate we were able to dictate a bit and I knew the best way to beat the favourite was to out-stay him," he said.

"He was laying in a little during the run home," he added, "which is why I elected to pull him rather than go to the fence - he might have laid in on the rails if I did that."

"I thought if I got him out it would spark him up a bit which it did and he showed a good turn of foot."

A bargain NZ$12,000 purchase for Paul Moroney at the 2008 New Zealand South Island Sale, Lordoftheparrots took his prize money tally to beyond $170,000 with his Wangaratta Cup victory.

Raced by Michael Horne, Patrick Brennan, Dr Randall Jackson, Joseph Brennan, Alex Cartel, Thomas Brennan, Damien Rideout, Rhett Tregunna, GG Ltd (manager Gerard Peterson) and 3D (manager: Shane Dyson), Lordoftheparrots ran a somewhat unlucky second in the Wangaratta Cup two years ago so it was good to make up for that defeate!
