Mae Jinx aims for blacktype double

Tough mare Mae Jinx has drawn ideally in Saturday's Listed Timaru Stakes at Riccarton Park - barrier one ideal for the natural leader.

“She is a real free-goer and seems to put in her best efforts in front," said a happy Chad Ormsby, "so I guess that’s what is likely to happen when the barriers open on Saturday.

Leading throughout when successful at her most recent outing - winning the Listed Berkley Stud (Eclipse) Stakes at Wingatui on Boxing Day - Mae Jinx was due to have another run but has instead been kept fresh.

"We had hoped to get another run ito her before this race but circumstances meant we missed that run," Ormsby said, "so she will go into the race fresh and ready to rock and roll!"

"She is a very clean-winded mare," he continued, "so we're not too bothered by missing a run and if the track stays firm it will also work in her favour as she prefers it that way - the harder the better."

A six times winner from 26 starts, the well related daughter of Stravinsky will be ridden on Saturday by Mark Sweeney.

Mae Jinx is out only runner at Riccarton Park but we also take three runners to Saturday's Trentham meeting, kicking off with Heat Blast who has also drawn nicely (barrier 5) in the Dominion Post Premier.

To be ridden by Trudy Thornton, the lightly raced and promising four-year-old has pleased us since his latest victory at Tauranga on January 2.

Fortunately Xalted - who missed out on a feature run as emergency recently - sneaks into the Summer Cup field with barrier one and a step up to 2400m likely to suit the son of Pentire.

Less luck for Savvy Dancer however who is second emergency in one of the day's feature events, the Group 2 Wellington Cup.
