Seymour Cup Day

Sunday is another busy day for Ballymore with five runners at the Seymour Cup meeting.

Whilst we don't have a horse in the feature event, we have some very nice types with good chances - kicking off with Ali-Vital in the fourth race, a 1600m maiden.

Catching the eye with a game third over 1400m at his Echuca debut a few weeks ago, the son of Sir Tristram stallion Yamanin Vital is a horse to watch for the future.

"He is a nice staying type," Michael Moroney said.

"He might still be a preparation away but his first run was good and he is showing signs that he has a bit of a future."

Also a horse with stamina, All Out War is topweight in the sixth race, a 2200m handicap.

Last but not far away over 2000m at Bairnsdale a couple of weeks ago, the Galileo six-year-old looks ready to show his best.

"He is fit now," said Moroney, adding that "we probably rode him a little bit wrong last start."

A 1600m Showcase is the eighth race on the card and we saddle up two runners - the talented Quarterbar and the stayer Balmoral.

"We have had a few problems with Quarterbar," Moroney said, "but he seems good now."

"He looks terrific - he is a lovely horse - and whilst he may need this we expect him to improve pretty quickly and he will prove hard to beat once he gets up to the 2000m. He is a smart horse."

Having his first start since late June, Balmoral won his only start at Seymour and we are hopeful of a forward showing.

"He could run a sneaky race first up," Moroney said.

"He looks tremendous and he has been working well - and he has run nicely fresh before."

Another horse who may perform well fresh is Muirfield who resumes in the final event, a 1300m handicap.

"He is in well after Jordan Childs' claim and he is a horse who has always shown a fair bit of ability."
