Bendigo Sunday

Ballymore's busy weekend continues at Bendigo on Sunday where we cheer on seven runners including two runners in each of the first three races.

Smiles For Naara and Zazparella kick off our day in the opening event and both are well regarded by the stable.

"Smiles For Naara is an interesting runner," Michael Moroney said.

"She is a nice filly who raced greenly at debut, striking trouble. But we have been happy with her since and being a Zabeel she should be suited over a longer trip."

Stepping up from 1100m to 1600m, the Sir Patrick Hogan bred filly - a NZ$260,000 Karaka purchase - jumps from barrier two for Michael Walker.

Close up at her first two outings, Zazparella will also appreciate a rise in distance.

"She is one of our Oaks fillies," said Moroney, "and we have been waiting to get her up to this sort of trip."

Jaws and Little Hero contest the second race - the former, a full brother to the talented Sharkbite (pictured) making his debut.

"He is a nice big horse," Moroney said, "and he will get better as he gets older."

Little Hero meanwhile is expected to prove hard to beat.

"He was slightly disappointing last start but he had missed a bit of work. He should be improved."

Awesome Goal and Walloon Region line up in the third race and their is an air of confidence about the former who showed so much ability during a short winter campaign - in the placings at debut in New Zealand and than at Sandown.

"He is one of our better staying horses and he should prove hard to beat."

Walloon Region also has ability although the well related son of Danzero from the family of Linton will improve with maturity.

"He is a nice big staying type of horse," Moroney said, "he does have a future but he might be a preparation away. He has thrown to his dam sire Montjeu."

The horse we are most excited about at Bendigo on Sunday is That's The Way who resumes in the fourth event, a 1300m maiden.

Not having much luck during his two start debut campaign in May/June, the son of Pentire has progressed nicely.

"He is a very good horse," Morone enthused - "amongst our better horses. He should clear his maiden quickly."
