African Pulse - may be saved for next Saturday

So impressive saluting first up at Flemington two weeks ago, African Pulse (pictured) has thrived since but a tricky barrier in Saturday's Listed Carlyon Stakes has the stable considering scratching.

"There is another nice race for him at Caulfield next Saturday," Michael Moroney said, adding that "he will probably only run if there happens to be a lot of scratchings and he comes in a bit."

Drawn the outside gate of 15 in the $120,000 1000m contest, African Pulse hopefully has a big spring ahead so connections are happy to be patient at this early stage.

It is a quite weekend overall for Ballymore with just two other runners - Mariah's Pulse and Yesmasa accepting for both Sunday and Monday's provincial meetings with the former likely to race at Seymour and the latter at Warrnambool.

Due to jump from barrier six for Jason Lyon in the 1300m Maiden Plate - the second event on Sunday's card, Mariah's Pulse strips fitter for an encouraging first up run.

"She is going really well,'" Moroney enthused, "and if she runs up to her track work she should prove hard to beat."

The signs are good that Mariah's Pulse, a lightly raced daughter of Nadeem, is going to enjoy a good campaign - at her first run in 12 months the four-year-old a game and close up fourth at Geelong, that start only her fourth to date.

"She is definitely going the right way," Moroney said.

Yesmasa meanwhile is a filly who is only going to improve with racing.

Having her second outing in the 1300m maiden, race six on Monday, the three-year-old by Reset ran a respectable race at debut.

"We are were happy with her first run," said Moroney, "and she has been working well and showing ability."

"She is however still a preparation away, still a bit weak - so we will probably give her this run then a spell."
