HAIL CEASAR TODAY

We have four runners at Caulfield today, starting with Ceasar in the fifth race.

Ceasar (pictured) will be ridden by Sheridan Clark in the 1400 metre contest with Mike Moroney keen to offset the 61.5 kilograms.

“I was satisfied with his first-up run at Sandown,” Mike said. “He loomed up in the straight then got a bit tired which I was expecting but he’s done well since.

“This looks a race with a few chances, including him. He’s drawn nicely, the claim helps him and with natural improvement I’ll be disappointed if he doesn’t run well.”

Jungle Jim bids for a hat trick in the ninth race over 1100 metres with Tayla Childs riding.

“He’s in career best form and I think he’s holding his condition well,” Mike said. “We haven’t done a lot with him since the last win but he’s fresh and well.

“We’ve claimed to help him, the favourite looks the obvious one to beat but I’m sure Jim will give them something to chase.”

Elkington Road and Japanese Emperor both run in the last race over 1400 metres with Jamie Mott to ride Elkington Road and Daniel Stackhouse aboard Japanese Emperor.

“Elkington Road was good first-up then on face value disappointing last time out at Flemington where he raced on speed in a fast run race after a five-week break,” Mike said.

“He galloped well on Tuesday, will present in good order today and while the odds-on favourite is going to prove hard to beat I am expecting a bold run from Elkington Road.

“Japanese Emperor is certainly good enough to win this. His last start down the straight was encouraging and he ran through the line strongly.

“He’s fit and well, the wide draw is not ideal but if it’s a fast run race and he ran up to his best then he will be hard to hold out.”
