COEUR VOLANTE IS ALL HEART

Mike Moroney’s faith in the ability of Coeur Volante was justified with the filly scoring a brilliant win in Friday night’s Group 3 Scarborough Stakes at Moonee Valley.

Well back before halfway in the 1200 metre sprint, Coeur Volante had crept closer approaching the home turn and looked full of running but needing room as the field entered the home straight.

Blake Shinn was coolness personified and trusted his filly, waiting to switch back towards his inside before accelerating through to score a narrow but dominant win, much to the delight of her trainer.

“It was a step up in class for her tonight and she's inexperienced but I thought she was up to them. She was aided by a lot of speed on and looked like she was going to get a good run through but was then held up,” Mike said. “She was brilliant and the jockey was brilliant.

“We purchased her as a yearling at Karaka, left her in the New Zealand stable and we gave her two trials, where she had a third and a second. It was after the second trial I thought she was pretty

good.

“We bought some of the people who owned her in New Zealand out, while others stayed in. We put new people in from Australia and brought her over.

The stable has ambitious plans for the daughter of Proisir including a tilt at the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield which we be run on November 18 this year, as part of an altered Victorian Spring Carnival.

“We brought her back to target the Thousand Guineas and that’s where we will head,” Mike said

“We’ve got a program worked out, we’ll see how we go. She is not the most robust of fillies and I was a bit worried about her coming in tonight, she’d gone off her feed for a little while ago which fillies can do at this time of the year but she’s been good the last week so hopefully it will

be upwards from here.”
