SNAPPER ARE BITING AT MOONEE VALLEY

Four good chances for us at Moonee Valley today, headed by Snapper in the feature Australia Stakes.

Snapper (pictured) faces seven rivals in the Group 2 sprint over 1200 metres where he will be ridden by Jye McNeil and Mike Moroney is confident of a forward showing.

“I’m really happy with him, the way he looks and has trained on,” Mike said. “He’s going in today fit and well, if he flies the start then he should be able to hold the fence and lead but if he’s a step slow then we have no problem taking a sit.

“It’s a tricky one but if he’s able to get across and hold the lead then I expect him to be hard to beat.

Sound and Swords Drawn both contest the first race of the day over 2500 metres with Mike taking advantage of Laura Lafferty’s claim on Sound and Celine Gaudrey on Swords Drawn.

“I’m happy with both of them, a pity they have to clash but that’s the way it has worked out,” Mike said.

“Swords Drawn has come on from his last start and is well in himself,” Mike said. “The draw makes things a bit awkward for Celine in the small field but if she can get into a midfield position with some cover and then join into the race at the right time I’m sure he can figure in the finish.”

“Sound is flying, his work on Tuesday was terrific and I think he gets into the race with great weight considering his record,” Mike said.

“The softer track early in the day will suit, he’s drawn to sit in the first four and I’m going into today with confidence.

“His danger is the stablemate but I do think with ordinary luck in running he’s a great chance to win.”

No Secret gets a gear change for her race today.

“I’ve added blinkers to help her in what is a small field,” Mike said. “She worked in them on Tuesday and was very good. She’s got Blake Shinn aboard and if the blinkers can sharpen her I’ll be disappointed if she doesn’t turn her form around.”
