IT'S CAULFIELD CUP DAY

Five chances for us on Caulfield Cup day including Chapada and Sound in the feature race.

The Caulfield Cup is race nine with Daniel Stackhouse riding Chapada and Blaike McDougall aboard Sound.

It will be the fourth start for Chapada (pictured) this preparation and Mike Moroney feels the horse is ready to peak.

“He’s nice and bright and I’m happy with him,” Mike said. “He ran a terrific race in the Naturalism second-up and I’ll admit I was a bit disappointed in his effort last start in the Turnbull.

“In saying that he’d been off a long time and I’ve followed the same preparation as we did last year when he ran well in this race so I’m expecting him to run well in a Cup where there look a lot of chances.”

Sound is having his third start for the preparation and will jump from barrier 10.

“He’s also been off a while and although he was last at Moonee Valley at his last start it was a sit and sprint which did not suit him at all.

“He will be better suited if the track does happen to improve and it will be no surprise to me to see him run well.”

Catalyst and Poland both run in the last race, the Moonga Stakes over 1400 metres with Mark Zahra aboard Catalyst and Craig Newitt riding Poland.

The pair galloped together on Tuesday morning.

“They both worked well and if anything, Poland maybe had the better of the work but there wasn’t much between them,” Moroney said.

"They are both in good order, I’ve added the blinkers to Catalyst today and Poland has finally drawn a nice barrier so they both get their chance.”

The Duke Of Dubai starts our day in the second race over 1700 metres with Daniel Stackhouse riding.

“He’s nice and fit and racing well,” Mike said. “He’s untried on heavy ground but is drawn to get a nice run and while it is a step up for him with ordinary luck I’m sure he will be thereabouts at the finish”
