Mythical breaks Australian maiden

A patient ride by Jamie Mott saw handy mare Mythical break her Australian maiden at Kyneton on Thursday, the four-year-old at only her third local outing coming from well back to claim victory in the 1850m contest.

Appreciating the step up in distance after a close and somewhat unlucky second over a mile at her previous start at Bendigo, the former New Zealander was always travelling well third last on the rails.

Hooked off heels at the 400m, the daughter of Thorn Park gained a split at the turn and took full advantage – wearing down the leader to find the line in determined fashion.

Also a winner in New Zealand back in April, Mythical is raced by the Greenvale Jets Syndicate (manager G Del Mastro), M Curtis, S Manousopulos, M Caporale, S Sweeney, L Marin, D Saban, M Massella, T Fotinos and G Arvanitis.

Well related, she is out of the two times winning Kaapstad mare Jumble who has also produced the Group placed Veldt.

A nice future broodmare prospect, Mythical hails from an international family whose members include the stakes winners Thorn Tree (US), Pushy (UK), Bluebook (France), Nakayama Express (Ireland), Myself (UK), First (France), Law Lord (France) and Thrilling Day (US).

It is a quiet weekend ahead for Ballymore with just the one runner at Flemington – the handy chestnut Beatboy taking his place in the final event, the Comic Court Handicap over 2000m.

To be ridden by Lisa Cropp, the six-year-old strips fitter for his last three runs back from a spell and on his best form could give this race a shake.
