A Sale double

A great day at Sale on Friday with the stable’s two runners both finding the line to win in impressive fashion.

Early in the day the highly regarded debutant Noble Park, a well related Pins three-year-old from the prolific Denise’s Joy family, looked particularly good saluting by 1.3 lengths.

Settling back and wide from an outside gate, the good looking but still immature bay was nevertheless always travelling well for Rhys McLeod.

Hooking out at the top of the straight, he let down beautifully over the final stages, quickly claiming his rivals before racing away – doing a bit wrong but still proving too classy.

“He is a really nice horse,” said Michael Moroney, “he still has to grow into his body a bit but we have always had a high opinion of him – he came over from New Zealand with a good reputation.”

Raced by Rohan & Kate Aujard, Rhett Tregunna, Paul Williams, Allison Cratchley, Rod Whinfield, Patrick Pinnell, Peter Pinnell, Rupert & Cheryl Legh Racing and Gurners Bloodstock Co, he looks a good buy for $70,000 – another promising type to catch the eye of Paul Moroney.

Later in the day Dodge Tide was in winning form at his first run since last spring, going close to the track record over the 1008m.

“We have worked him out now,” Moroney said, mindful that the four-year-old had proven a bit disappointing when stepped up in distance last time in.

“Turns out he is a sprinter – we will stick to the 1000m and 1200m with him from now on.”

Being a son of the Epsom Derby winner Quest For Fame, sire of the stable’s dual Gr.1 winner Sarrera, Dodge Tide was expected to get a bit of ground – “but he seems to have thrown to his dam,” Moroney said.

A $160,000 Magic Millions graduate aced by Rupert & Cheryl Legh Racing, Rohan & Katherine Aujard, Noel & Judith Griffin, Wayne Mitchell, Harold Hansen and the GG Ltd Syndicate (manager Gerard Peterson), Dodge Tide is out of the Gr.3 placed Tidal Rhythm whose best form was over sprinting trips.
