ANOTHER CUP FOR HANG MAN

Sunday proved a Cup day for us with Hang Man scoring a dashing win at Yarra Valley.

Given a perfect ride from Jamie Mott, Han Man settled midfield with cover to halfway with the race favourite Skyman smothered away on his inside.

Jamie got first run and asked Han Man to quicken before the home turn, looping the field to go clear and then defeat Skyman, who he was conceding four kilos, by three-quarters of a length in the $125,000 Yarra Valley Cup (1950m).

Mike Moroney said he felt the seven-year-old import deserved the win.

“For a little while I thought he might get caught up but in a tactical race Jamie went at the right time and that move won the race,” Moroney said.

"He sprinted quickly and went clear and started to idle but he'd put the race away by then and I thought it was a really good win.

“He’s been up a while but racing really well this preparation and deserved a trophy - that’s his second country cup now and depending on how he comes through this we might look at the Easter Cup next for him.”

Today’s win is the eighth for Hang Man, purchased as a yearling in Ireland by Paul Moroney.

Congratulations to his owners Ballymore Stables (Aust) Pty Ltd, R & C Legh Racing Pty Ltd, Pulitano Thoroughbreds Pty Ltd, B & C Thoroughbreds Pty Ltd, Ms A M Bergin, Werrett Bloodstock Pty Ltd, Mr C H Madden, Mrs J G Madden, Mr S J Cowan, Dr C K Cowan, Mrs R Cain, Mr FJ Cain, Mr P A Moroney, Mr E Vaughan and Vermont Racing Club.
