A trio of weekend chances

A fairly quiet weekend ahead but we are still hoping for a winner or two - or maybe even three!

Just the one runner at Flemington on Saturday, two-year-old Parvenu lining up in the second race, the ACG Security Handicap.

Good without a great deal of luck at his Tatura debut, the bay has progressed nicely since.

"He was a bit green at his first start," Michael Moroney conceded, "but he was very good late. He is a nice staying type in the making so the step up to 1400m will suit him."

"The main concern," he added, "is that he is short in experience."

The same can be said for many of Parvenu's rivals however and he will be well aided by in-form rider Lisa Cropp drawn nicely in barrier three.

Two runners on Sunday also, Lady Fleming taking her place in the Class 1 Mile at the Sunshine Coast.

"We made a mistake keeping her to the 1200m last time," Moroney said, "it was just too short for her."

"We are really looking forward to seeing what she can do over further."

To be ridden by Matthew Palmer, Lady Fleming will enjoy the advantage of a good gate - barrier five.

Roll With Pulse is our only other runner for the weekend, due to race in the Jack Maher Classic at Wodonga on Sunday.

One of the Victorian provincial circuit's biggest two-year-old races, it has attracted a strong field but Moroney is confident Roll With Pulse will prove competitive with Chad Ormsby aboard from barrier five.

"He has drawn better than he did at debut," Moroney said, noting that the son of Zariz did it pretty hard at Echuca - sitting wide but boxing on well.

"He is a horse we have always liked," he said, "and we think he can be right in the mix."
