SOGGY GEELONG RUNNERS FOR US

Two Tuesday runners for us at Geelong with Rocking Eagle and Jungle Jim on debut.

Jungle Jim is in race one, the 3YO Maiden Plate over 1112m with Jordan Childs riding and jumping from barrier nine following scratchings.

The track is now rated a heavy (8) which leaves Mike Moroney guessing.

“He’s untried on a heavy track so it’d impossible to tell if he will cope - he might be able to handle a heavy track great, we just don’t know,” Moroney said.

“He hasn’t been tried on one at home so we don’t know but there’s only one way to find out and at least Geelong is a good track to find out.

“He led all the way to win his 1100 metre jumpout at Werribee against older horses and a repeat of that should give him a chance in what does look a competitive maiden with some spruiks about for some of his rivals.

“He’s ready to go to the races and I’m confident he will give a good account of himself but it will all be down to handling the track so we will take our chance and be hoping for the best.”

Rocking Eagle (pictured) runs in race six, the benchmark 64 handicap over 1312m, jumping from barrier five in a field of 10 after scratchings.

Rocking Eagle was scratched from the weekend in preference to today’s race but has only raced on a good surface.

“It will be his first test on a heavy track so we are guessing with him as well,” Moroney said.

“He was disappointing first-up but he is nice and bright and has come on from the run - I’d say we’ll wait and see how the track is playing before we make a decision on how we ride him.

“He’s a big strong sort so I’m confident he can carry the weight and if he brings the form from his first preparation than he will be hard to beat.”
