Town and country for us today with The Delphi and Thunder Peak at Flemington and Manu Bay travelling north to Benalla.

The Delphi is the first to go in the first race at Flemington, the open handicap over 2600m and with Lachlan King riding.

It is the fourth run back from an injury enforced layoff for The Delphi who made up some late ground over 2000m at Pakenham at his last start.

“It looks like there is a bit of pace in the race, he’s drawn out wide which is no help so we’ve used Lachlan’s claim to reduce the weight,” Moroney said.

“He’s getting fitter all the time and today’s race will bring him on again.

“It looks a competitive contest for sure but if they do run along and he gets a trouble free run then he could be a sneaky place chance.

Thunder Peak (pictured) is in the third race, the 3yo fillies benchmark 70 handicap over 1400m, jumping from the outside barrier nine under Jamie Kah.

“She’s trained on nicely enough and she’s shaping as though the extra distance today is going to suit her,” Moroney said.

“I’m certain the bigger track today will be more in her favour than last start at Moonee Valley where she struggled a bit but still ran well.

“From the outside we’ll need to go back and then have one crack at them in the straight and even though it does look a race with a bit of form in it I do think our filly is an each-way chance.”

A twilight start at Benalla when Manu Bay is in the first race, the Maiden Plate over 1606m with Michael Poy in the saddle and drawn barrier five.

“His debut was disappointing but we’ve given him a jumpout since and he went really well so I’m banking on him stepping up in trip and with the experience he can show us something today,” Moroney said.

“He’s a Savabeel and I’m not panicking with him just yet - his debut run was just totally inside out so I’m looking for him to be a bit more professional today and be running on at the finish.”
