Hoping for Abitofwinning this weekend

It’s an early start to our weekend with a runner in the opening event at Caulfield, the tough and consistent Abitofado (pictured) taking his place in the Saturday Age Cup.

Hard fit for recent racing, the six-year-old looks to have his hoof firmly on the till after a gallant Moonee Valley second at his most recent outing. To be ridden for the first time by the in-form Chad Ormsby, he seems to be in just the right race.

“He looks well placed,” said Michael Moroney, “he is down a bit in class and he should prove hard to beat.”

Promising two-year-old Chabrier is our other Caulfield runner, lining up in the fourth race, the Inglis Bonus.

Dropping back to 1000m off the back of an impressive 1200m maiden victory at Cranbourne, the son of Strada has been kept a little fresh.

“It is a good race for him financially should he be able to win,” Moroney said, “so we thought we’d give him a crack at it.”

“He has to improve rising in class but we think he is on the right track.”

Ballymore also saddle up three runners at Sale on Sunday, kicking off with debutant Jamelden’s Dream in the second race, a 1213m maiden.

“Being out of the Queensland Oaks runner up Royal Sencherec he is bred to want a bit of ground,” Moroney said, adding that the three-year-old “has not shown a great deal in his jump-outs.”

“He has drawn a tough gate and we will be happy if he is running on late – whatever he does he will improve upon.”

Guns Blazing, due to contest the fourth race, steps up to the mile second up from a spell and has drawn nicely in barrier seven.

“He is a horse we have always had an opinion of,” Moroney said. “He is not quite up to his right trip but he is getting there and he should prove competitive.”

As should Mr Molokai who has his third run back from a spell in the following race, the LaTrobe Valley Cup.

A very tough close up fifth after enduring a horror run in transit at his latest outing at Sale, the promising four-year-old has progressed nicely since and looks well drawn in barrier eight.

“He should prove hard to beat,” said Moroney.
