COBRA SET TO STRIKE AGAIN

Runners for us at Ballarat today and the stable is in form following a Friday double.

Chicago Cub, Hawker Hurricane and Shelby Cobra the first to go in race three, the VOBIS Gold Eureka Stockade over 1400m.

Shelby Cobra (pictured) impressed winning the Listed Springtime Stakes at the Flemington spring carnival last time out and has done well since according to Mike Moroney.

“He’s done well and I’m really happy with him - I think that last run has brought him to his peak,” Moroney said.

“I haven’t been too hard with him on the track but his work on Tuesday was terrific without running silly time, he was strong through the line and would not have blown a match out.

“In an ideal world he can settle in the one-one position and with ordinary luck I’m expecting him to win.”

Chicago Cub runs in race five, the Tonks Plate over 1200m with Jordan Childs aboard and drawn barrier two.

“I’ve added blinkers to him and if they help him find those couple of lengths that he has been missing then that might be enough,” Moroney said.

“I admit he hasn’t been at his best this preparation however, he didn’t have much of a break off a tough winter campaign so that might have affected him.

“He’s landed in a winnable race today I think and from the draw should get a lovely run and if he can produce his best then he is definitely good enough to win.”

Hawker Hurricane rounds out or day in race nine, the Magic Millions 3&4YO Classic over 1100m with Mark Zahra riding and jumping from barrier six after scratchings.

“Both his wins have been on this day so it would be great if he can make it three,” Moroney said.

“I think he’s got the best form in the race and his last jumpout has brought him on. I did a little bit with him on Thursday and he showed me he’s ready to run well.

“He will improve for the run today but h’s forward enough to be hard to beat.”
