SHELBY COBRA STRIKES AT FLEMINGTON

Mike Moroney is predicting a bright future for Shelby Cobra following his impressive Listed Race win at Flemington on Saturday.

Settled a little worse than midfield through halfway, Shelby Cobra eased out into the centre of the track in the home straight and then unwound a strong finish to reach the lead inside the 50m and defeat Tommy Gold and Deep Speed at the finish of the Amanda Elliott Springtime Stakes (1400m).

It is the 21st win over the four-day Flemington spring carnival for the stables and Moroney is predicting a bright future for the gelded son of Toronado.

“I thought he might haver won by further except he wandered around over the closing stages,” Moroney said.

"He was waiting for them a bit. But he's only new at the whole thing so that's to be expected and he can only improve as he learns his trade.”

Moroney will assess the horse first before deciding on another race this preparation for Shelby Cobra.

"We don't usually make decisions on race day so we'll see how he pulls up but certainly we'll consider all avenues - he’s an exciting horse for sure.”

Purchased for $130,000 at the Inglis Melbourne yearling sale from the draft of Maluka Thoroughbreds by Paul Moroney, Shelby Cobra is now the winner of two of his three starts.
