Lady finds the line

It was a well deserved victory for up-and-coming mare Lady Fleming at Ipswich on Friday, the lightly raced and promising three-year-old finding the line in determined fashion on a track that was suiting leaders.

“The leader got a soft run in front,” Michael Moroney said, “but she nailed her on the line – it was a good, tough win.”

Held up for a run half way down the straight, Lady Fleming was forced to do a bit of bullocking work but she really wanted to find the line – appreciating the step up to 1200m after finishing in the placings over 1000m at her previous start at the Sunshine Coast.

Raced by Richard Chung Yee Hui, Lady Fleming is a daughter of the high class Nijinsky II stallion Royal Academy is out of the unraced Let's Get Physical mare Sister Victoria - half sister to the durable Tasmanian stakes winner River Don and to the dam of the South African Gr.3 winner Millennium Diamond. Another of her sisters produced the multiple Group winner Staging, dam of the Gr.1 winners Excites and Duporth. Caulfield Cup winner Mannerism also hails from this family.

Hopefully the stable's good recent run in Queensland continues as we saddle up two runners at the Sunshine Coast on Sunday - As You Like It and Shining Bullet.

Contesting the 1400m maiden, As You Like It looks hard to beat on the back of an eye-catching debut second at Ipswich a couple of weeks ago.

"That was a back me next time sort of run," Moroney said. "He has a tough draw (16) but he has trained on well and he looks a top chance."

Same goes for Shining Bullet in the following race, the 1800m Class 1.

"He is in the same boat, ready to win but poorly drawn (14). He is also up quickly in distance but that is his go adn he is a nice staying type in the making."

Meanwhile the stable could not be happier with the great run by emerging filly Born To Rock in the Gr.1 Tattersall's Tiara at Eagle Farm on Saturday - the lightly raced three-year-old putting in a barnstorming finish to run third behind the older and more experienced mares Yosei and Beaded.
