FAREWELL VENGEUR MASQUE

We said farewell to a stable favourite earlier this week when Vengeur Masque left us for the last time.

The import came to us as a four-year-old and walked out the stable on his own and head held high and Mike Moroney said the son of Monsun has earned his retirement.

“It’s a sad day for us as he’s a stable favourite but after his run in the Mornington Cup last Saturday we decided it was time for him to finish,” Moroney said.

“He ran in an English classic, the St Leger, then came to us and won a Geelong Cup and a Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

“He ran in a Melbourne Cup and a Caulfield Cup and just missed when a close second in a Sydney Cup so he doesn’t owe anybody anything.

“He was thoroughly game and genuine - the one thing he didn’t like was rain affected ground and when we sent him across for the Auckland Cup it started pouring down on the morning of the race and the track ended up as heavy, even so he still tried his heart out and finished fifth, that’s the sort of horse he was.”

Fortunately, Vengeur Masque will have an active retirement.

“Emma Wood our resident vet and Vengeur Masque’s regular trackwork rider loves the horse to bits and is currently sorting out the best option for his retirement so he will want for nothing,” Moroney said.

“He’s been a terrific horse for the stable and while we will miss him he’s about to start a new chapter of his career so we wish him well.”
