THREE CHANCES FOR US AT SANDOWN ON MONDAY

The Boy Wonder, Rue de Rennes and Wham are our runners on the Lakeside course at Sandown on Monday.

The Boy Wonder is the first to go in race three, the Benchmark 64 Handicap over 1600m with Jordan Childs riding.

The son of Cape Blanco scored over 1600m at Echuca on December 31 after dropping back in distance and Mike Moroney has elected to stay at the same trip.

“He’s racing well and did well last start after we dropped him back from 2200m,” Moroney said. “it’s a stiff finish at Sandown anyway so he should be well suited today.

“We haven't had to do a lot with him but what we have I’m pleased with and in what looks a pretty even race I think he will be there at the finish.”

Rue de Rennes runs in race four, the Benchmark 64 Handicap over 1400m for fillies and mares with Fred Kersley reducing the weight to 58.5kg.

It is the first start this preparation for Rue De Rennes who won twice last campaign.

“She’s coming along nicely and is ready to resume,” Moroney said. “She looks terrific and while the trip today is likely to be on the short side I’m expecting to see her finish it off.

“She disappointed last start on a heavy track so that’s one thing she won’t have to contend with at Sandown. It looks a pretty competitive race but it's a good place to get her started.”

Wham (pictured) rounds out the day in race seven, the Benchmark 70 Handicap over 1400m with Jordan Childs riding and wearing blinkers.

It is the fourth start this preparation for Wham who finished fourth last time out over 1600m at Sandown.

“We’ve dropped him back a bit in trip,” Moroney said. “He had to make a long run last time and didn’t quite finish off over 1600m - we've added the blinkers to help him focus.

“He couldn’t be any fitter and although he’s up in grade slightly he is on the minimum which will help him so with the right sort of run I’m expecting him to run well again.”
