THREE CHANCES FOR US AT FLEMINGTON ON SATURDAY

Three excellent chances for us at Saturday’s twilight meeting at Fllemington in Alabama Express, Bill The Bee and Chicago Cub.

Alabama Express is the first to go in race three, the Open Three-year-old Handicap over 1100m with Michael Dee in the saddle and to jump from barrier four.

It is the first start following a short break after the spring for the son of Redoute’s Choice, which finished a luckless seventh in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes last time out in November.

“We’re really happy with him and his last jumpout coming into this was good,” Moroney said.

“He’s a horse we’ve always had a high opinion of and he’s come back in terrific order.

“A small field up the straight is my one little concern. He’s forward enough for the 1100 metres and I do think he will be hard to beat.”

Chicago Cub (pictured) runs in race eight, the Benchmark 84 Handicap over 1200m with Fred Kersley reducing his weight to 55kg, the same he carried to victory over 1200m at Flemington last time out on December 21.

“He’s trained on terrific since the win and we couldn’t be happier with him,” Moroney said.

“Obviously this is a class rise but he gets the same weight and he seems at home on the straight track.

“Drawn where he is might be the place to be the end of the day so I’m expecting him to run very well.”

Bill The Bee rounds out a long day in race nine, the Benchmark 70 Handicap over 1800m, jumping from barrier two with Mark Zahra in the saddle.

“He’s done extremely well from his good win at Moonee Valley last start,” Moroney said. “That said he will need to have improved a bit as it’s a stronger race today.

“The draw suits him and from there he should get the right run.

“I can’t fault him and while it’s a step up in grade I do expect him to run well and prove hard to beat.”
