The stable has cheered home two nice winners this week, in Queensland last Sunday Colossus Of Rhodes making a victorious Australian debut whilst closer to home on Tuesday Jelly Baby was impressive at her first run for Ballymore.

Very green when placed at his New Zealand debut in late April, Colossus Of Rhodes raced a bit truer when finding the line in game style at the Sunshine Coast – although he still has plenty to learn.

A NZ$80,000 purchase for Paul Moroney, the well related son of Spartacus (by Danehill) is raced by the GG Syndicate Ltd (manager Gerard Peterson) and Lib Petagna. He is out of the winning Sir Tristram mare Allez Barsac, a half sister to the Gr.1 Epsom Handicap winner Allez Suez.

Over to Kyneton on Tuesday where the 1488m fillies and mares maiden was taken out in easy fashion by Jelly Baby.

Having her first start since February, and her first for the stable, the lightly raced and promising three-year-old really looked the goods racing away to a soft 2.3 length victory – impressing rider Lisa Cropp.

“She’d had a couple of lovely jump-outs so there was a bit of confidence,” she said, “and on the way to the gates my confidence grew as she just felt so good.”

Describing Jelly Baby as a “lovely, long striding filly,” Cropp added that it is all “onwards and upwards” for the daughter of Australian Cup winner Istidaad.

Raced by Gerard Van Ameyden, Samantha Nuttall, Geoffrey Sharp, Catherine Hart, Sof Manousopoulos, Cameron Lamb, Michelle Kneebone, Homer Koster and Josephine Luppino, Jelly Baby hails from a good NZ family whose members include the Gr.1 winner Happiness and the stakes winners Zankel and Just Anything.
