DAY AND NIGHT ACTION ON FRIDAY

Day and night runners for us on Friday at Echuca and Moonee Valley.

Miss Hayworth and The Boy Wonder race at Echuca while Mr Marathon Man is under light at Moonee Valley this evening.

Miss Hayworth runs in race two, the Fillies and Mares Maiden Playe (1209m) with Jake Noonan to ride from barrier two and Mike Moroney is happy with the daughter of Dalakhani at the races for the first time.

“We're really happy with her and she’s improved from jumpout to jumpout and her last piece of work was pleasing,” Moroney said.

“She’s beginning to pick things up quickly now and at this rate I can see her running well in what does not look the toughest of races.”

The Boy Wonder is in race six, the Benchmark 58 Handicap (1618m) with Jamie Mott riding and jumping from barrier eight after scratching.

It is the second start this preparation for The Boy Wonder who finished third over 1435m at Geelong on September 30.

The import has been unplaced at his last two starts in Sydney, both at Group I level.

“He’s drawn out a bit but I’m sure Jamie will take care of that,” Moroney said.

“The horse has come on for a good run first-up and although this race is still a tad short of his best I do think he’s capable of running a big race with ordinary luck in the run.”

Mr Marathon Man (pictured) takes a big drop in class at Moonne Valley when he runs in race three, the Westin Melbourne Handicap over 2040m with Damien Oliver riding from barrier two.

“He’s topweight but he’s the best horse in the race,” Moroney said.

“I can’t fault him and although he’s topweight this is a big drop in class for him. The plan is to let him do his own thing and flow - if that means he ends up leading then so be it, what we don’t want to do is be pulling him around and trying to get him to relax.

“If he flies the gates and can get there comfortably I’m keen on letting him lead and I’m banking on the step up in distance will get him relaxing in the lead and that will see him at his best.”
