TWO CHANCES IN FEATURE RACES ON CAULFIELD CUP DAY

Two runners for us at Caulfield today after Sound made his way into the Caulfield Cup field.

Someone else’s bad luck is our good luck and we understand how disappointed connections of Crown Prosecutor will be after being scratched on Friday but we are delighted our import has gained a start.

Sound (pictured) made his Australian debut in the race last year but Mike Moroney feels is far better prepared this time.

Sound finished seventh last time out behind Kings Will Dream in the Turnbull Stakes (Gr 1) over 2000m but beaten under four lengths and strong past the post.

“I honestly believe his form is better than it appears on paper,” Moroney said. “

"This race has always been a part of the plan, he’s nicely weighted, drawn well and he’s at the right distance.

“He’s stronger and heavier and he’s certainly no 100/1 shot in my opinion.

“Ideally he can settle in the first half of the field and then be strong at the finish - provided we can get some luck in the big field I’m expecting him to run a big race.”

Alabama Express is our first runner of the day when he starts in race three, the Gothic Stakes at Listed level over 1400m.

It is the third start this preparaion for the son of Redoute’s Choice who finished an unlucky fifth last time out over 1200m at Moonee Valley.

Moroney has added a bubble cheeker to the gear and made a rider change for today’s race.

“We’ve put Michael Dee on as he’s a natural left-handed whip rider - we may not need that as he might be able to find the rail anyway,” Moroney said.

“I really think he’s up to this level, you can forget his last start when he had no luck and his work has been terrific.

“If he flies the barriers then we might lead, he just has to take his natural ability to the races and he’s a real chance of winning.”
