SPRING CAMPAIGNS COMMENCING AT BENDIGO

Three Wednesday runners for us at Bendigo including the Australian debut of Nerve Not Verve.

Nerve Not Verve (pictured) runs in race eight, the Fillies and Mares Benchmark 78 Handicap over 1500m with Dwayne Dunn to ride.

The daughter of Shocking finished midfield in the New Zealand Oaks and won her Maiden over 2100m at Pukekohe last time out in May and Mike Moroney is pleased with the way she has taken to training in Australia.

“It’s a nice starting point for her on a big roomy track with a bit of give in it and she’s ready to go after two jumpouts,” Moroney said.

“That said she has struck a strong race against som in-form mares and she’ll be better off over further.

“She does shape as a stayer so it will be lovely to get her started as we build into the spring with her.”

Chicago Cub runs in race five, the Benchmark 64 Handicap over 1000m with Michael Dee in the saddle from barrier three.

It is the first start this preparation for Chicago Cub, who won first-up last preparation on a heavy track at Yarra Valley before placing at Moonee Valley.

“He’s drawn nicely and if it stays soft it will not worry him, although with the way the weather is I can see the track improving,” Moroney said.

“He comes into this off a really sharp jumpout and I’m very happy with him. It looks a handy enough race however, the way he is training and from the draw I do think he will be hard to beat

Hurricane Fighter runs in race nine, the Benchmark 70 Handicap over 1300m with James Winks to ride from barrier seven.

It is the first start this campaign for the four-year-old son of Savabeel who won his last two starts at Sandown and Ballarat.

“I’m very happy with the way he has come back and he’s training well but he’s struck a strong looking race,” Moroney said.

“He’s a horse we’ve always had a good opinion of and he’s grown and matured.

“He’s had two jumpouts leading into this and while it is possibly a bit on the short side for him I will not be surprised to see him run a good race as he really does possess good ability.”
