TWO WINNING CHANCES ON THE HILLSIDE TRACK WEDNESDAY

Two runners for us on the Hillside track at Sandown on Wednesday in Meteor Light and last start winner Rainbow Thief.

Meteor Light is the first to go in race four, the Blue Star Print Handicap over 2400m with Mark Zahra taking over from Nikita Beriman.

The import has finished second at three of his last four starts and Mike Moroney has made a gear change to coax a win out of the import at Sandown on Wednesday.

“He can hit a flat spot in his races so we’ve taken the ear muffs off for tomorrow’s race,” Moroney said.

“He meets the two horses who have beaten home at his last two runs so I’m hoping this can make a difference.”

Meteor Light just missed last time out behind The Donchess over 2200m at Bendigo and is trying 2400m for the first time in his 17-start career.

“His run two starts back at Sandown was solid and he’s handling the preparation well.

“He’s the same he’s been for his last two starts when he’s gone close and he’s due a turn.

“Ideally I wouldn’t like to see the track dry out any more and if we did get the rain that is forecast it will not be a problem as he has not missed a place in five starts on a heavy track.”

The promising Rainbow Thief (pictured) runs in race five, the MRC Membership Renewal Handicap over 1400m with Dwayne Dunn to ride from barrier five.

The son of Rock ’N’ Pop impressed when finishing strongly to score over 1312m at Geelong on June 12 and has pleased Moroney since.
“We haven’t done a lot with him but he;s nice and bright and well in himself,” Moroney said.

“He’s a horse I’ve got a bit of time for and I thought his last start win was impressive.

“This represents a step up in class and theres some form in the race but I’m expecting our horse to run well.

“The track has come up heavy which should not be a negative for him as it was like that at Geelong last start and he handled it well.”
