TWO RUNNERS AT HOME ON SATURDAY

Two runners on our home track on Saturday after a quiet but winning week.

Milwaukee and Gottaluvtrucks represent us with Milwaukee the first to go in race three, the Grampian Region Handicap over 1100m with Michael Poy to ride again.

Milwaukee (pictured) suffered his first loss on the straight course last time out when runner-up in the Straight Six (Listed) but lost nothing in defeat and has thrived since.

“I’d say he’ll put himself on speed at the 1100 and make his own luck,” Moroney said.

“His work since has been terrific anf he just keeps improving through the preparation.

“The opposition doesn’t look any harder than what he’s been meeting so I do think he’s a winning chance.

“The only reservation I have is the track - ideally it will improve a bit, especially with the way it drains but i wouldn’t like to see it get any worse.”

Gottaluvtrucks runs in race eight, the Macedon and Goldfields Handicap over 2000m where scratchings have reduced the opposition to 11.

The son of Camelot broke his Maiden last time out over 1600m at Seymour on a soft track.

“We’ve always been expecting him to be better over a bit of ground and he did it nicely last start,” Moroney said.

“Obviously this is a lot harder but he will appreciate the circuit and he coped with soft ground well last start.

“It’s disappointing to draw the outside so we’ll just have to see how tha track is playing before we make up our mind on tactics but he’s well in himself, could not be any fitter and this race will tell us where we are with him at this stage of his development.”

After the double of Mr Marathon Man and Buffalo River at Sandown last Saturday, Star Surprise scored nicely at Echuca on Sunday to take our tally of wins for the season to 50 and we intend to improve on that before the season ends.
