HEAVY GROUND THE KEY AT GEELONG ON FRIDAY

Spanish Peaks makes his debut as one of our two runners at Geelong on Friday.

Spanish Peaks runs in race two, the Open Maiden Plate over 1240m with Damien Oliver to ride from barrier three following scratchings.

Spanish Peaks pleased Mike Moroney and Damien Oliver when finishing fourth behind Deference in a 800m jumpout at Flemington on May 24.

“He’s up against older horses and he’s only had the one jumpout but we’d like to get him going and I feel he’ll learn more in a race than having another jumpout,” Moroney said.

“It’s great that he has drawn where he has as he should learn a lot from the experience.

“He’s a horse we have an opinion of and he’s got really nice ability. He’s in the deep end so to speak and he’s never been on a heavy track.

“I think he’s a spring colt and will certainly derive some improvement from the experience.”

Scratchings mean Electrifying Lady (pictured) has gained a start in race one, the 2YO Fillies Maiden Plate over 1240m with Jordan Childs to ride.

Electrifying Lady led most of the way to win a 800m jumpout at Flemington on May 10 before finishing unplaced on her debut over 1100m at Wangaratta on May 23.

“The heavy track is the question for her but she gets first use of the track so we are willing to let her take her chance,” Moroney said.

“She’s fitter for the first run and, more importantly, she has drawn a lot better in barrier four.

“I do think she can run a better race but the key is if she handles the ground.”
