WEATHER TO PLAY ITS PART ON FINALS DAY

It’s a weather watch for Rhythm To Spare and Yesterday’s Songs ahead of finals day at Flemington.

Rhythm To Spare (pictured) runs in the main race of the day, the $150,000 Winter Championship over 1600m with Damien Oliver to ride and jumping from barrier nine.

Rhythm To Spare has finished fifth in this race the last two years and Mike Moroney is delighted with the way the eight-year-old is training.

“He looks terrific and Anthony Feroce and Kosi Kawakami his regular rider told me his work on Tuesday was excellent and he’s going as well as he’s ever gone,” Moroney said.

“If we can get some of the forecast rain before the race then that will enhance his chance as he’s ideally suited by a bit of give.

“The wind might have a part to play as well so we will see how the day progresses before deciding if he goes forward or takes a sit.

“If he can get some luck, which he hasn’t had his last two starts, then I think he’s a good chance.”

The weather will dictate if Yesterday’s Songs takes his place in the last race of the day, the Victorian Sprint Series Final over the straight 1200m.

Stephen Baster is aboard Yesterday’s Songs who will jump from the outside however, Moroney will be monitoring the track throughout the day.

“The track is currently a good (4) but with the strong wind and if we don’t get the forecast rain then I will scratch him,” Moroney said.

“If we do get the rain then I’m happy with him but he needs some give in the track.

“His work on Tuesday was excellent and his best will be good enough to be in the finish here.”
