Play That Song get another chance at stakes company when she runs at Doomben and Lakhoni is closer to home at Caulfield on Saturday.

Play That Song is in race seven, the Doomben Roses (Gr.2) over 2000m where she will be ridden by Michael Cahill.

The daughter of Smart Missile made up considerable ground in the home straight to finish fourth in the Gold Coast Bracelet over 1630m and Mike Moroney is expecting the extra distance on Saturday will suit.

“She’s thriving on the preparation and has done particularly well,” Moroney said. “She came from a long way back to win over 1875m at her previous start at Newcastle so I’m expecting the distance to suit.

“She’s drawn in the middle of the field which I’m happy with as she can decide where she wants to go, especially if it’s truly run.

“It’s a Group race but the form looks quite similar to her last start so she’s earned her place in the race.

“Her work has been good and she’s bouncing around so we’re looking for a big run.”

Lakhoni runs in race six at Caulfield, the Super VOBIS 3YO Handicap over 1200m with Patrick Moloney in the saddle.

It is his second run this campaign after finishing unplaced first-up at Caulfield last month.

“It’s a bit disappointing as he’s drawn nicely but with the track now soft and the rail out it may not be the advantage we had hoped for,” Moroney said.

“I thought his last run was better than it looked - it was a day where it was hard to make ground and he did make up some ground in the straight and his sectionals were good, so his effort was satisfactory.

“He’s won on a soft track and I think he’s good enough to be running in a race like this.

“He’s still got some physical improvement to make next preparation but he’s in good order, his work has been good and if he’s not inconvenienced by the draw then I’m expecting him to run well.”
