EAGLE SOARS AT SALE

Eagle Ridge justified Mike Moroney’s good opinion of the three-year-old with an impressive first-up win at Sale on Wednesday.

Settled fourth in the small field as The Mayor set the pace to the home turn, Eagle Ridge finished strongly under Patrick Moloney to defeat the $2.70 favourite Lagerfeld by three-quarters of a length in the 3YO Benchmark 64 Handicap over 1200m.

Eagle Ridge has won two of his three starts and Moroney has a good opinion of the son of Turffontein.

“I thought Patrick got him into a lovely position and he said he came out around the home turn as he was worried about the slow pace set by the leader,” Moroney said.

“When he asked him for an effort he said Eagle Ridge really quickened when the favourite came at him and he thought it was a stylish win.

“He’s shaping as if 1600m is going to suit and he looks a good talent.”

Eagle Ridge was purchased at the Melbourne Premier Sale for $65,000 as a yearling by Paul Moroney and has earned more than his purchase price in three starts.

“He’s won two of these Super VOBIS races now to take his earnings past $70,000 which is a great result,” Moroney said.

“We’ll see how he pulls up before we decide where he runs next.”
