SUNDAY RUNNERS AT ECHUCA

No rest for the team on Sunday with three runners at Echuca and good prizemoney on offer.

Nanita is the first to go when she runs in race one, the 3YO Maiden Plate over 1100m where she will be ridden by Patrick Moloney.

Wide barriers have frustrated Mike Moroney with the daughter of Not A Single Doubt.

“She just keeps drawing bad barriers and has got another one here but we need to run,” Moroney said. “We did accept with her for next Tuesday but she drew wide there as well.”

Nanita disappointed last start at Bendigo after a promising first-up run and Moroney has made some gear changes.

“We’ve put blinkers on her and the 1100 metres should suit her,” Moroney said. “The race on Sunday has VOBIS bonuses attached so the prizemoney is excellent for connections.

“We are going to need luck from the draw but the blinkers have improved her so she is capable of figuring in the finish if she gets the right run.”

Hang Man (pictured) and Bianco Nuovo both start in race three, the Maiden over 1400m with Patrick Moloney aboard Hang Man and Nikita Beriman on Bianco Nuovo.

Hang Man is making his Australian debut. The import made up a lot of ground to finish runner-up over a mile and a half at his only start at Ascot in England last September.

“He’s a nice style of staying horse and impressed us with what he showed at his only start last year,” Moroney said.

“He’s settled into the routine well and shown up in his jumpouts - the trip today might be on the short side for him but it’s a good place to start him off and whatever he does he’ll improve on.

“I’d be looking for him to be hitting the line strongly and then progress further.”

Bianco Nuovo is racing first-up. The son of Artie Schiller finished unplaced on his only other start last year at Seymour and Moroney said is a better horse this campaign.

“He’s a much stronger horse this preparation and still has further improvement in him I think,” Moroney said.

“He’s shown us in his jumpouts this time in that he can maintain a high cruising speed but that he might be better off over a bit further.

“Like Hang Man, this is a good place to start him off and he too will improve with racing and over further.”
