Runners in two states on Thursday with the Sydney stable providing an opportunity for Bonnieux to get off the mark.

Bonnieux is the first to go when she runs in race two at Newcastle, the Soul Café Maiden over 1200m.

The Choisir three-year-old has had two starts this campaign and was only beaten 1 ¼-lengths last start when fifth over 1000m at Kembla Grange.

Mike Moroney has had an eye on the wild weather that has been over Newcastle and surrounding areas overnight.

“They haven’t had as much rain at the racecourse as they have in the rest of the town,” Moroney said.

“The soft will not be a problem and it does look a winnable race for her.

“The step up to 1200m will suit and the race has some nice BOBS bonuses attached which is why we sent her there so from the nice draw I’m expecting her to run well.”

Bouwmeester runs in race two at Donald, the 3YO Maiden over 1200m.

Scratchings have allowed the son of Ocean Park into the race and Moroney is anticipating a gear change will have a positive effect.

“We’ve put blinkers on him and we’re anticipating this will help focus him,” Moroney said.

“I’m not concerned about being drawn and if he does switch on and get across then he’s capable of running well.

“The day he puts in on the track what he shows us in the morning on the track will be the day he’s winning.”

Louisville Lip (pictured) runs in race six, the Benchmark 58 Handicap over 2000m and he too has drawn wide.

“He has the outside which is not ideal but we are running because it looks a nice race for him,” Moroney said.

“He’s stepping up to 2000m and I think that will suit him as he was a bit one paced at his last start.

“He's a free striding horse and he can stay so this race will tell us a bit more about where we can head with him.

“Over further and he’s trained on nicely so I’m looking forward to seeing how he copes with it and there’s no reason why, with reasonable luck, he can’t be winning.”
